FAQs

I want to get started what happens next?
You will need to contact the Exercise Centre to make a booking for a functional assessment.  Whether you are a sports athlete or you have never exercised before all clients need a functional assessment.  This will enable the exercise specialist to design an exercise programme specific to how your body is working and the goals you set out

What does the functional assessment entail?
The exercise specialist, who has trained through the CHEK Institute will perform a number of assessments and tests to determine how your body is performing.  This includes:

•

Assessment of your posture.

•

Muscular relationships, which are often distorted when chronic problems have caused you to compensate.

•

Range of motion testing and advice on appropriate mobilisation and/or stretching regimes.

•

In-depth analysis of core stability with targeted strengthening of any under-performing muscles.

•

Spinal and pelvic mechanics.

•

Assessment of other stressors in the your life whether psychological, ergonomic or dietary.

Can the Exercise Specialist give advice on nutrition?
Yes, all exercise specialists are qualified to give advice on nutrition.  One area we work in is Metabolic Typing, which is a system to help determine what foods you as an individual do best on.  One man’s food can be another man’s poison.

What does it cost?
The functional assessment costs £75.

This consultation and assessment takes 1-2 hours.   This includes one programme design. Following the assessment each one-to-one session costs £40.

How often do I need to come?
This is very dependent on your commitment and budget.  If you are in a rehabilitative programme, we may recommended a number of one-to-one sessions to optimise results and to ensure exercise technique is at a good standard.

We have a range of clients, some who train on a weekly basis, some every 2 weeks, some every 4 weeks and at least every 6 weeks.  After 6 weeks the body will start to plateau with its current exercise routine and motivation can start to wane.

Can you design and supervise an exercise programme for my gym routine or for at home?
Certainly!  We need to complete a functional assessment to discover which exercises will benefit you the most.  We then recommend that you take advantage of ptenhance to help you stay focussed.

Ptenhance is an Internet based training companion that enables you to view all your exercises in a video format on your computer. It also allows you to stay in contact with our exercise specialists for motivation and advice in between your one-to-one sessions in the centre.

Do I have to be injured or be a patient of the Southcote Chiropractic Clinic to come?
No, we welcome anyone who wants to improve their health.  We can assist in rehabilitation, fitness training, sports specific training, stress reduction, nutritional advice and how to lead a healthy lifestyle.  Give us a call to see how we can help.

Can I come in and train on my own?
All training in the gym studio is supervised.  We can, however, accommodate 2 people who want to train together.
